I use my Macbook Pro for daily blogging activity. It’s super fast and so
convenient
that, I couldn’t live without it for a day (I guess ? ). It’s been years I used Windows as my development platform.Sometime back I’ve written an article on setting up WordPress locally on Mac OS X using MAMP and it became very popular. I received number of feedbacks from wide variety of users about their primary OS and they liked tutorial which was mainly for Mac users. This is my Macbook pro configuration.
Even after using Macbook for so many years, I never thought of changing
default screen-capture file location
until now.When you take a screenshot on your Mac, it will be saved to your Mac’s Desktop folder by default. This is done to make screenshots easy to find once you snap them. To locate your screenshots, either view your desktop to find thumbnails of your screenshots or locate the “Desktop” section in the Finder app. Jump into your Steam client on either your Windows PC or Mac then click on the View tab (on the top menu). Then from the dropdown menu click on Screenshots. Now, select the game that you have saved screenshots. This will bring up all the screenshots saved for the game that you had chosen. - STEP 1: Click Spotlight icon (the magnifying glass on the top right)
- STEP 2: Type “Terminal” and press enter
- STEP 3: Copy/Paste the following code and hit enter to create a folder named “Screenshots” in your “Documents” folder
mkdir ~/Documents/Screenshots
- STEP 4: Copy/Paste the following code and hit enter to set this new directory as the destination folder for screenshots
defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Documents/Screenshots
- STEP 5: Copy/Paste the following code and hit enter so these settings will take immediate effect
killall SystemUIServer
And there you have it! Screenshots will now start saving into your very own screenshots folder!
Two additional tips:
- You can adjust the above copy/paste syntax to have your screenshots saved somewhere else if you choose, this is just one example and my personal solution
- If you use DropBox or Google Drive, consider making a “Screenshots” folder and saving them directly here- it will allow you to automatically save your screenshots to the cloud, really helpful if you tend to share most of your screenshots (with a web developer or co-worker or someone else)
Don’t forget to delete all the annoying screenshot files that have piled up on your desktop!
